Coach Rose Lei

Rose Lei is the founder, owner and head coach of CBA.

Rose’s dream of building a badminton academy and facility started in the year 2000. For 10 years, she searched for the best location and property for her academy, saved funds to start her business, and watched as 10 badminton clubs opened in the Bay Area. In May 2010, she opened the doors to her dream gym and named it the California Badminton Academy. The name is derived from the communities in which she taught and trained over 500 successful high school badminton players.

Rose has played badminton since she was 12 years old. She played on teams for school, city youth badminton, and Guang Dong province, which won China’s National Championship. Finally, Rose joined and captained the Chinese National Team and competed for many years in the highest level national and international matches.

Training as a world-class athlete, she learned how to set goals and the amount of hard work and mental strength required to reach her goals. Most importantly, Rose developed a philosophy for badminton, which has become the mission statement for CBA:  “Good results come from good spirit- Strong Mind, Strong Body, Strong Skills and Strong Community”

Since opening CBA, Rose has coached beginner athletes and helped them become 2012 and 2013 Junior National Champions in U9 Single and Mix Double. Over the last three years, CBA athletes have won over 40 National and International Championships. Rose is very proud of her coaches, students, and parents.

In addition to competing and coaching, Rose has spent many years researching badminton. As one of the leaders of the Chinese Badminton Association, she brought a research group to the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup in Malaysia and Indonesia. Her research was published to critical acclaim at the World Sports Conference and National Conference.

Rose is still very involved in competitive badminton, playing in National, International, and World Senior Badminton Tournaments. In 2011, she was the National first place winner and World Doubles third place winner. In August 2013 she went to the World Masters Games in Torino, Italy and won first place Women's Single, second place Mix, and third place Women's Double. Rose’s experience continues to enrich and add depth to her coaching.

Since 2002, Rose has been a volunteer for the NCCAF community and contributed monetary funds and over 1000 hours to promote Badminton in Bay Area. Her contributions to the community have been recognized and appreciated by NCCAF.
